The journey

The reason you have not been to Lakshadweep is paperwork. Entry permits, restricted islands, one small airport, limited beds, the islands are protected by administration rather than distance, and most travellers give up at the first form. That is precisely the opportunity. The water inside Agatti’s lagoon is the clearest in Indian territory, and on a weekday morning you can have a hundred metres of it to yourself.

We handle the permit end to end, it is the single most valuable thing on this itinerary and we say so without embarrassment. From there the trip is deliberately simple: Agatti for arrival and acclimatising to island time, then the boat across to Bangaram, an uninhabited-but-for-the-resort island where the day’s decisions are snorkel now or snorkel later. Kayaks over turquoise, turtle sightings on the reef edge, glass-bottom boats for those who prefer to stay dry, and nights dark enough for a proper sky.

This is our honeymoon journey before it is anything else, and we have built the pacing accordingly: no forced activities, no shared coach, one escort on call rather than on your shoulder. Couples who want the Maldives feeling on an Indian permit, this is that, honestly delivered, with the trade-offs named below.

Day by day

Six days, start to finish. The route, then the rhythm of it.

Days 1–2Agattilagoon, snorkelling
Days 3–4Bangaramreef, sandbank
Days 5–6Agattifinal lagoon morning, departure
  • Day 1

Fly Kochi to Agatti (90 minutes over the atolls, take the window seat, left side). Easy afternoon on Agatti’s lagoon beach. Sunset walk, early dinner.

  • Day 2

Morning snorkel inside the Agatti lagoon with the local boat crew we always use. Afternoon free; island cycle ride for those inclined.

  • Day 3

Boat transfer to Bangaram. Settle in, then an unhurried afternoon, the sandbank walk at low tide is the finest hour of this trip.

  • Day 4

Bangaram at your own pace: kayaking, glass-bottom boat over the reef, turtle spotting at the lagoon edge. Beach dinner.

  • Day 5

Last full lagoon morning. Optional second snorkel or simply nothing at all, this day is protected from itinerary on purpose. Return boat to Agatti by evening.

  • Day 6

Fly Agatti to Kochi for onward connections.

The facts most itineraries leave out. We print them because they are what decides whether this trip suits you.

Where you stay

On Agatti, the best of the island’s small beach properties, simple, clean, feet-in-sand. On Bangaram, the island resort’s cottages, where the generator is the loudest thing you will hear. Set expectations honestly: this is barefoot comfort, not five-star polish, and that is the point of the place.

Who it’s for

Couples and honeymooners above all, and anyone whose ideal day is water, reef and a book. Not for travellers who need choice of restaurants, shopping, nightlife or a spa menu, the islands offer none of these, and not ideal for non-swimmers who won’t enjoy watching others in the water, though the glass-bottom boat covers the reef for them.
